Groovy ecobags...

I just found out about this new site (www.ecobags.com) that has tons (and I mean tons) of cool bags that are eco-friendly. I haven't ordered yet because I am hoping they will be at the SF Green Festival next week and I can pick them up there (and save the shipping and handling). I especially like the lunch sacks; what a great alternative to the little brown paper bags. The prices are very reasonable and they have different types to choose from (natural cotton or organic cotton). Of course, the organic cotton stuff is more expensive but not by much! Another one on my list of must haves is the produce bags.

As I was reviewing the site I also found a resource page with other green blogs. I found one that really piqued my interest: Girls Gone Green. They are very similar to my blog name (Chicks Go Green) but they have tons of info and pearls of wisdom. So, here is my shout out to Girls Gone Green! Thanks for making a difference in the world.

How green is Sacramento?

My local newspaper, The Sacramento Bee, has been running a series on how green Sacramento is. I really learned a lot about my fellow Sacramentans. It actually makes me proud to live in such a progressive area. I have friends that don't even have recycling in their area. My office complex just got recycling bins so we can recycle our shredding, cardboard, etc. You can bet I have been out there putting almost all my trash (recyclable) in the recycling bin. It such makes it easier for me and the other businesses to make more of an impact.

Green cleaning

I love my cleaning lady. She specializes in green cleaning products and I love the way my house smells after she is done. She uses the 7th generation brand and I use Shaklee products for laundry and other things. My friend Stacy has a cleaning person that uses essential oils when she cleans and the house smells great when they are done. Any suggestions on ways to be more green while cleaning your house?

Hybrid cars

I have a dilemma. I desperately want a hybrid car. My current car is great (it is a 2004 Kia Amanti and I love it). I have about 18 payments left and it is NOT a hybrid. So, my dilemma is:

If I buy a new car (obviously a hybrid), is that doing more harm to the environment because my current car is so new? Or is it better to get a hybrid and start saving the ozone layer now?

I really want the Lexus Hybrid but that is out of my price range. I have been looking at the Saturn Vue hybrid and the Nissan Altima hybrid. Do any of you have any recommendations for me?

Green waste

So I was just told about this new book, "High Tech Trash" by Elizabeth Grossman, that deals with high tech trash! I will definitely run and buy it, but it made me wonder about the growing museum of old computer parts in my back garage. My husband swears he is going to use them one day or they will be worth a lot of money. I'm not so sure about either of those thoughts and I would love to just toss them out (I hate clutter). That got me to thinking about what to do with those disposable computers. Where can I get rid of them? So, that is my next project--find out where to dispose of high tech trash. That is, just in case my husband ever wants to get rid of it all.

Do you have any suggestions for recycling high tech trash? I would love to hear about it.

Wake Up and Smell the Planet: The Non-pompous, Non-preachy Grist Guide to Greening Your DayOn another topic, I just got my new book from Grist "Wake Up and Smell the Planet: The Non-pompous, Non-preachy Grist Guide to Greening Your Day" and I highly recommend it! It has tons of good information. It was especially thought provoking for me in their range of topics. Who would have thought about the inherent dangers in s*e*x toys and the materials they are made with? Certainly not me, but I will think about it now.

Got any other good book suggestions? Just let me know!
