Earth hour...

Did you participate? It was scheduled for last Saturday from 8 pm to 9 pm (local time). We were eating a late dinner and my son mentioned it. He said Google was blacked out and that reminded him about it. It was 8:07 pm at the time so we hurried and got out the candles and shut off everything. It was a nice dinner and we actually lingered instead of jumping up to do something else. All in all, it was a great experience and I think all Saturday nights (or some other night) should be lights out for at least an hour.

Here is the link to the official website: http://www12.earthhourus.org/

They are already planning the one for 2009! I know I will remember and be on time for that one.

Blackout sabbath?

Daylight savings now affords us another hour of light, though its power-saving intention appears debatable. Taking matters a step further, musician Rufus Wainwright proposes “Blackout Sabbath.” Inspired by the Northeast Blackout of 2003, the singer/songwriter has concocted a plan: unplug for 12 hours, from noon to midnight, on the summer solstice, June 21st. This really only means it’s dark for a few hours, but shutting off TVs, radios, computers, and other appliances will be tough on many, even if it’s Saturday. During this sensory deprivation, he suggests we think about saving the planet, claiming his approach is a down-to-earth alternative to the growing “glitzy” green movement.

This is definitely something to think about. Could I go 12 hours without a computer, TV or other light? I am going to try! Will you join me?

it's in the bag...

Our local newspaper, Sacramento Bee, had an article today about resuable totes. They reviewed the stores in the region with reusable totes for sale. Their number one pick was from Trader Joes. I must admit I have two of their cute bags and find them spacious and colorful. The other top picks included:

Now you don't have any excuses for having to choose between paper and plastic.

I've been gone........

but now I'm back. I have been so busy since the first of the year. New clients, getting a divorce, travel, fun, work--the list goes on and on. I have been working with a buddy coach on my "Chicks Go Green" to keep me motivated and this weekend I am on an "IIOHAW" which stands for:  If I Only Had a Weekend. It is something I came up with when I was doing my What's Next project with the hot girls. We all wanted to get together to work on our projects but because of the distance it was difficult to do. So I suggested we all get together and work virtually from a hotel in our own areas. This is the second one I have done and it works well for me. I am away from the home (and chores, and kids) and I get lots of rest and work. This time I actually brought my daughter, Lisa, with me because we needed some mother/daughter time. Anyway, my goal today is to get all my ideas for the blog posts for the next 6 weeks and get them written. So I have been getting all kinds of ideas and I am almost done with the writing!!!!

As I was reviewing items for the blog I came across a great book by Maxine Hyndman that I own. It is called "The Organic Entrepreneur." One of the first things in the book is a great quote that really inspired me today:

There is one thing in this world which must never be forgotten. Human beings come into this world to do a particular work. If you forget everything else, and not this, there's nothing to worry about. If you remember everything else and forget your true work, then you will have done nothing in your life.  ~ Rumi

Wow, those are some powerful words and I promise I will remember my work! Chicks go green......
